HYPE Urban Bikes sprang to life out of bike projects launched by social enterprise, HYPE Merseyside in 2009.
The original project started within its youth clubs supporting young people not just by fixing their bikes for them, but providing them with the skills to do it themselves. In 2017, realising the potential to help more young people, the team opened a small bike shop on Grange Road West in Birkenhead.
This seed of an idea grew into HYPE Urban Bikes,with the aim to make cycling safer, affordable, more accessible, and a natural choice for as many people as possible, particularly young people from marginalised or deprived backgrounds.
